Nuts, Bolts, & Wheels: 100 Years of Buggy

For Carnegie Mellon University’s “Nuts, Bolts, & Wheels: 100 Years of Buggy” exhibit, I served as managing editor, developing the comprehensive editorial strategy in partnership with the University Archivist. My project management approach included extensive research through digital collections and archival materials to ensure historical accuracy throughout all content. I wrote and copy edited all written materials for the physical exhibit, accompanying printed materials—including a commemorative exhibit book—and the supporting website. Additionally, I crafted engaging social media content to promote the exhibit across platforms. My content strategy included establishing an efficient editorial workflow that kept approvals on schedule while maintaining consistent messaging across all communication channels.

The Interfraternity Motor Sweepstakes—affectionately known as “Buggy”—represents one of Carnegie Mellon University’s most enduring traditions. This student-run competition perfectly embodies CMU’s interdisciplinary ethos, blending engineering precision with artistic design and athletic performance. The event demonstrates the university’s distinctive ability to integrate art and science, creating applied knowledge that extends beyond academic boundaries. As a centerpiece of Spring Carnival, Buggy celebrates collaboration across disciplines and generations, showcasing how students, faculty, staff, and alumni work together toward common goals. This century-old tradition continues to exemplify the innovative problem-solving and cross-disciplinary teamwork that defines Carnegie Mellon’s unique educational community.
